*cavalry trumpet* charge!!

Without knowing Juliet is one of Charge’s sponsored riders, I threw one of her movies into this blog earlier this month. It is only now I have found out about these bikes being built on Brick Lane in England.

Give the short videos below a play to learn a little about this pure company.

leederville batty-boy

Ok, it’s not often that I will be taken off the fixed gear subject, but fellow administrator Mr Batty-boy (portrait above) has moved into Leederville and that is a big deal!! Note: two exclamation marks.

For those who are unassociated with the urban landscape that is Leederville, please view the image below to grasp such a concept.

Ok, here is a snippet of the real town.

Local rampages for sure!!

pant wettage

I don’t have a urinary problem, but these H + Son Formation Face rims made me wet my pants.

H + Son Formation Face Rim1

H + Son Formation Face Rim2

They are 42mm deep. That’s 12mm deeper than Velocity Deep V rims!!

You can check these bad boys out, amongst other fixed gear items, at thebikebiz.com.

perth great bike ride

I can think of more insignificant topics to commence my element fixed blog life than the Perth Great Bike Ride. And, as one of only two blog administrators taking part, and more to the point, the only person I knew of taking part, i need to embellish somewhat. Between the 106 and the 53km, the 53km was best suited to someone who had indulged in gold mine bay marie specials for two weeks straight in tanzania leading up to this event. With no preparation, other than inspecting my specialized tarmac on friday night and contemplating it’s first service since purchase, I slipped on the carnac’s and headed to langley park for the start. Due to laziness and general dislike of the race documentaton I filed in somewhere towards the back of the grid, which meant i was passing all things great and small for the first 2/3 of the race. The course was idyllic, Perth often gets things wrong but i can’t think of a better course for this event, clinging the river and some top property along the way - the roads were completely closed off to add to the ‘road race’ vibe (see course here).. this and the swathes of team CSC shirts. Amazingly I was the only person amongst thousands wearing a 2007 edition Quickstep jersey, and more importantly, the only person riding a 2007 gerolsteiner edition specialized tarmac. I managed to settle in with a group of riders for the middle half to latter two thirds of the race, propelling a finish time of 1hr 44m (29.8km/hr).

official photos will be posted on flickr at a later date.

Matt

having got this event out of the way and escaping with some credibility, I can look to my fixed project as the next way forward. that, and greg finally getting the much anticipated road bike.

english entry

Some people are incredibly serious about their fixed gear riding that they have called the people in the following movie “boring hipsters”. Didn’t we all get on a fixxie or singlespeed for the exact same reasons Juliet states? To those who question how hardcore and pure each rider is, how about chilling out and enjoying your riding without worrying if you’re staying true to this fixxie image that exists out there? Enjoy.
